Hami, also known as Kumul, is a prefecture-level city located in eastern Xinjiang, China. The current administrative structure was established in early 2016 when the former Hami county-level city merged with Hami Prefecture to form the existing prefecture-level city, with the former county-level city becoming Yizhou District.
The region has been recognized since the Han dynasty for its production of raw resources and agricultural products. Today, the area is particularly well known for its cultivation of sweet Hami melons.
