Gaochang

Gaochang, also known by various names including Khocho, Karakhoja, Qara-hoja, Kara-Khoja, Karahoja, Chotscho, Qocho, or Qočo, was an ancient oasis city located on the northern rim of the Taklamakan Desert. The site is situated in present-day Sanbu Township within the Xinjiang region of China.

Historically, the city was referred to as "Halahezhuo" (Qara-khoja) and Huozhou during the Yuan and Ming dynasties. It served as a significant location within the arid desert landscape before its historical decline.
