Changji is a county-level city located in Northern Xinjiang, China. It is situated approximately 40 km (25 mi) west of Ürümqi, which serves as the regional capital. The city has a population of about 390,000 inhabitants and functions as the seat of the Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture.
The area is notable for its historical significance, specifically at the northeast corner of the modern city. This site contains the walls and archaeological remains of a Tang dynasty city commonly known as Ancient Changji.
