Tingqian is an administrative town located in the northeast of Huangmei County, Hubei Province, China. Situated in the northern part of the Dabie Mountains, the town encompasses a diverse geography that integrates old, reservoir, and mountain regions. It serves as a border trade gateway between the provinces of Hubei and Anhui.
The name "Tingqian" is derived from an ancient relay station established during the Ming dynasty, where travelers would stop to rest before continuing their journeys. The town's economy is primarily based on agriculture, with significant cultivation of blueberries, oil tea, and yellow tea. Other economic sectors include forestry, animal husbandry, and tourism.
As of the end of 2018, Tingqian had a registered population of 29,184. The town government is situated within Tingqian Village. Historically, it has been recognized as a poverty-stricken town at the provincial level in Hubei.
