Qingu was a Mesopotamian god primarily known for his role in the cosmogony of the Enūma Eliš. In this epic, he appears as a subordinate and spouse of Tiamat, serving as an adversary to the deity Marduk. Following his defeat by Marduk, Qingu is killed, and his blood is utilized in the creation of humanity.
While most references to Qingu are allusions to his defeat in the Enūma Eliš, scholars suggest he may have originally been the antagonist of a separate, now-lost myth unrelated to Tiamat. He also appears in other Mesopotamian texts, including the myth "The Defeat of Enutila, Enmešarra, and Qingu."
