Mingxing refers to the Mingxing Film Company, also known as the Star Motion Picture Production Company. It was a prominent production house active in the Republic of China between 1922 and 1937.
The company was established by a consortium of creative professionals, including film director Zhang Shichuan, dramatist Zheng Zhengqiu, and critic Zhou Jianyun. While it initially produced comedy films that received little public interest, the studio achieved significant commercial success in 1923 with the release of Orphan Rescues Grandfather. This production provided the necessary revenue for the company to expand its operations and hire new talent.
