Xiangtan is a prefecture-level city located in east-central Hunan province, situated in south-central China.
The city holds significant historical and cultural importance as the hometown of several prominent figures from Chinese history. It includes the birthplace of founding leaders of the Chinese Communist Party, such as Chairman Mao Zedong, President Liu Shaoqi, and Marshal Peng Dehuai. Additionally, it is the home region for notable figures including Qing dynasty and republic era painter Qi Baishi, scholar-general Zeng Guofan, and tennis player Peng Shuai.
