Zhengding is a county located in southwestern Hebei Province in North China. It is situated approximately 260 km (160 mi) south of Beijing and falls under the administration of Shijiazhuang, the provincial capital. The county has a population of 594,000.
The area has served as an important religious center for over 1,000 years, spanning from at least the Sui dynasty to the Qing dynasty. It is recognized as the founding place of several major schools of Chan Buddhism. While many historical religious complexes were damaged over time, the Longxing Monastery remains a notable site where the building ensemble has been preserved almost intact. Additionally, the county features four famous pagodas, each characterized by its own distinct architectural style.
