Xiahe County is a rural and mountainous county located in the Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Gansu province, China. It borders Qinghai province to the west. The county was officially named Xiahe in 1928, a name derived from the Daxia River which flows through its territory.
The region is characterized by a pastoral landscape and is primarily populated by ethnic Tibetans, along with Han Chinese and Hui people. It is most notably home to the Labrang Tibetan Buddhist monastery, which is recognized as one of the largest Tibetan Buddhist monasteries located outside of the Tibet Autonomous Region. In recent decades, the county has developed into a notable tourist destination.
