Handan is a prefecture-level city situated in the southwestern region of Hebei province, China. As the southernmost prefecture-level city in the province, it shares borders with Xingtai to the north and the provinces of Shanxi to the west, Henan to the south, and Shandong to the east.
As of the end of 2024, Handan has a total resident population of 9,182,100, with an urbanization rate of 62.10%. The city's built-up area consists of five urban districts. Notably, the Yongnian District in Handan and Shahe City in Xingtai have largely merged to form a single conurbation.
