Chengde is a prefecture-level city located in the Hebei province of China, situated approximately 225 kilometres (140 mi) northeast of Beijing. Formerly known by the names Jehol and Rehe, the city currently has a resident population of approximately 3,285,700 as of late 2024. The urban area maintains an urbanization rate of 59.77%.
The city is most notable for hosting the Mountain Resort, which served as a vast imperial garden and palace used by Qing emperors as a summer residence. Additionally, Chengde is recognized for its local dialect, which is noted for being the closest to Standard Chinese.
