Xixia, also known as Western Xia or Xi Xia, was a Tangut-led imperial dynasty in China that existed from 1038 to 1227 AD. It is officially recognized as the Kingdom of the Great Xia of the White and Lofty, though it is frequently referred to as the Tangut Empire.
At its peak, the dynasty governed a vast territory covering approximately 800,000 square kilometres (310,000 square miles). This region corresponds to modern-day north-central China.
