Xiguan, also known as Sai Kwan, is an ancient town and a prominent area situated within the Liwan district of Guangzhou, China. Historically located to the west of the city's old walled fortifications, it served as a significant urban center for trade and cultural exchange.
The area was home to several notable historical sites, including the Shamian enclave and the Thirteen Factories trading enclave, which was positioned on its southern shore. Linguistically, Xiguan is recognized as the origin of the Sai Kwan dialect, which serves as the prestige dialect of Cantonese.
