Beizi, also known as beizi or chuozi, refers to a style of traditional Chinese attire worn by both men and women. It is characterized as a large, loose outer coat featuring long, wide sleeves.
The garment originated during the Song dynasty and maintained significant popularity throughout the Ming dynasty and from the early to mid-Qing dynasty periods. During the Ming dynasty, it was specifically referred to as pī fēng.
When worn by men, the beizi is sometimes identified as changyi, hèchǎng, or dachang. These specific variations are distinguished by large sleeves and front closures consisting of knotted ties.
