Shangzhi is a county-level city located in the Heilongjiang province of the People's Republic of China. It falls under the jurisdiction of Harbin, the provincial capital, and is situated approximately 127 kilometres (79 mi) from central Harbin. The city covers an area of roughly 9,000 km2 (3,500 sq mi), making it the most spacious county-level division within Harbin City.
The administrative population of Shangzhi is approximately 600,000 inhabitants, while the population of the city proper is around 120,000. Geographically, the city borders Yanshou County to the north, Wuchang to the southwest, Acheng District and Bin County to the northwest, and the prefecture-level city of Mudanjiang to the southeast.
