Qitaihe is a prefecture-level city located in the eastern region of Heilongjiang province, China. It covers a total area of 6,223 km² (2,403 sq mi), making it geographically the smallest prefecture-level division within the province.
The city holds the second smallest population among the cities in Heilongjiang. According to the 2010 census, the total population was 920,419, with 620,935 residents living in the built-up area consisting of three urban districts. Projections for 2024 estimate a total population of 726,329, of which approximately 61.1% (444,058 people) will reside in urban areas.
