Mudanjiang is a prefecture-level city located in the southeastern part of Heilongjiang province in the People's Republic of China. Historically known as Botankou during the period of Japanese occupation, the city serves as an important regional transport hub.
The city features a significant railway junction and an international airport that provides connections to several major Chinese cities as well as Incheon International Airport in Seoul, South Korea. Geographically, Mudanjiang is situated approximately 248 kilometers (154 miles) from Vladivostok, Russia.
Economically, the city has shown significant growth in recent years. Its gross domestic product rose from RMB 93.48 billion in 2011 to RMB 118.63 billion by 2015.
