Jixi is a city located in southeastern Heilongjiang Province, People's Republic of China. It is situated on the Muling River, approximately 30 kilometers from the border with Russia's Primorsky Krai and 120 kilometers from Lake Xingkai.
The city serves as one of the primary coal mining bases in China. As of late 2024, Jixi has a total registered population of 1,593,200, with an urban population of approximately 1.006 million. The administrative area covers 22,488.47 square kilometers.
The city is notable for its industrial significance in the energy sector and its geographical proximity to the Russian border. Additionally, a crater on asteroid 253 Mathilde has been named in honor of Jixi.
