Hailin is a county-level city located in the southeast region of Heilongjiang province, China. It falls under the administration of the prefecture-level city of Mudanjiang and shares a border with Jilin province to its southwest.
The city covers a total area of 8,816 square kilometers (3,404 square miles) and has a population of approximately 422,000 residents. The demographic makeup of the region includes a majority Han Chinese population alongside significant numbers of ethnic Koreans and Manchu people.
