Daqing is a prefecture-level city located in the western region of Heilongjiang province, People's Republic of China. The name of the city translates literally to "Great Celebration," a designation given in reference to the tenth anniversary of the People's Republic of China.
The city is widely recognized as the "Oil Capital of China." It experienced significant economic growth and development following the discovery of oil at the Daqing Oil Field in 1959, which triggered a phenomenal boom for the region.
