Tongxian

Tongzhou is a district located in southeast Beijing, China. It serves as the eastern gateway to the nation's capital and covers an area of 906 km2, which accounts for approximately 6% of Beijing's total land area.

The downtown area of Tongzhou is situated roughly 20 km east of central Beijing at the northern terminus of the Grand Canal and the eastern end of Chang'an Avenue. The district is administratively subdivided into four subdistricts, ten towns, and one ethnic township.

Since its historical identification in 18th-century British accounts as Tong-Choo-Foo, the region has experienced significant demographic growth. The population rose from 673,952 in the 2000 Census to 1,840,295 by the 2020 Census.
