Tongren is a prefecture-level city located in eastern Guizhou province, China. It serves as a significant hub within a region primarily dedicated to crop agriculture and tobacco planting.
The administrative status of the area was officially changed from Tongren Prefecture to a prefecture-level city in November 2011. As of late 2024 and early 2025, the city maintains a permanent population of approximately 3.16 million people, with a registered population reaching nearly 4.5 million.
