The Doma (also known as Dom, Domra, Domba, Domaka, Dombara, or Dombari) are a caste group scattered across various regions of India. Historically, members of this community were recognized for their involvement in music, specifically as drummers and singers according to Tantra scriptures.
Traditionally categorized as one of the untouchable castes, known as Dalits, the Doma were historically associated with the disposal and cremation of human remains. During the British Raj, they were classified as a criminal tribe under the Criminal Tribes Acts of the 1870s. Today, the Doma are included in the list of Scheduled Castes for Reservation in several Indian states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Delhi, and Jammu and Kashmir.
