Bagan is an ancient city located in the Mandalay Region of Myanmar. It is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and served as the capital of the Pagan Kingdom from the 9th to the 13th centuries. This kingdom was the first to unify the regions that eventually formed modern-day Myanmar.
The site is characterized by its vast concentration of religious architecture built during the height of the kingdom between the 11th and 13th centuries. More than 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas, and monasteries were constructed across the Bagan plains, with remains of over 2,200 structures still surviving today.
