Tonghua is a prefecture-level city located in the southern region of Jilin province, China. It occupies an area of 15,195 square kilometres and shares borders with Liaoning province to the west and southwest, Jilin City to the north, Liaoyuan to the northwest, Baishan to the east, and North Korea's Chagang Province to the south and southeast.
According to the 2020 census, the city had a registered population of 1,812,114 residents. The built-up area, which consists of two urban districts, houses approximately 446,917 inhabitants. Tonghua is notably recognized as one of the five primary medicine production centres in China.
