Yaoji is a Chinese goddess associated with Wu Mountain. She is recognized as a shaman and master herbalist who is responsible for the presence of many medicinal herbs on Earth. Additionally, she serves as a protective weather goddess who raises and soothes storms.
Various sources provide different origins for Yaoji's lineage; some identify her as a daughter of the Yan Emperor, while later traditions incorporate her into Daoist religion as a daughter of the Queen Mother of the West. She is most notably featured in two poems attributed to the late Warring States poet Song Yu: The Ode of Gaotang and The Ode of the Divine Maiden.
