Dangyang is a county-level city located in western Hubei province, China. It is situated approximately 70 kilometres (43 mi) east of the Gezhouba Dam on the Yangtze River and currently falls under the administration of the prefecture-level city of Yichang.
The administrative history of the area dates back to the Western Han dynasty, when Emperor Jing of Han established an administration in Dangyang covering an area of 2,000 square kilometres (770 sq mi). In 1988, the State Council of the People's Republic of China officially elevated the region from a county to its current status as a county-level city.
