Qutang refers to a location associated with the Qutang Gorge, which is situated along the Yangtze River in China. It serves as the first of the three famous gorges formed by the river and is characterized by its distinct geographical features located immediately downstream of the ancient Baidicheng fortress.
The gorge is notable for being the shortest and narrowest of the Three Gorges, spanning only 8 kilometres in length with a maximum width of 150 metres. It is defined by the river passing between Chijia Mountain to the north and Baiyan Mountain to the south at a point known as Kuimen. The surrounding mountains reach heights of up to 1,200 metres, creating a landscape of high peaks and switchbacks that are frequently cited as some of the most beautiful vistas in the region.
