Zhangjiashan is a location in Jiangling County, Hubei Province, China. It is the site of Mount Zhangjia (張家山), where significant archaeological discoveries were made during excavations in 1983.
The area is notable for the discovery of the Zhangjiashan Han bamboo texts within tomb no. 247. This burial site belonged to an official from the early Western Han era who died in 186 BC. The find consists of ancient written works on traditional bamboo slips, which were originally connected by cords into rolled scrolls.
These texts date between 196 and 186 BC and provide a diverse range of historical information. Notable contents include legal case precedents, military strategy, mathematics, a calendar spanning from 202 BC to 186 BC, and literature on medicine, including the Book on Vessels.
