Yangjiang is a prefecture-level city located in southwestern Guangdong Province, China. It is also known by the Cantonese romanization Yeungkong. The city's geography is defined by its neighbors, bordering Maoming to the west, Yunfu to the north, and Jiangmen to the east, while facing the South China Sea to the south.
The local population primarily speaks the Gaoyang dialect, which is a branch of Yue Chinese. According to the 2020 census, the city had a total population of 2,602,959 people. A significant portion of these residents, totaling 1,292,987 inhabitants, live within the urbanized areas of the Jiangcheng and Yangdong Districts.
