Lijiang is a prefecture-level city located in the northwest of Yunnan Province, China. The city covers an area of 21,219 square kilometres and borders Panzhihua City in Sichuan Province and the Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture to the east. It consists of one municipality and four counties.
The city is well-known for its Old Town of Lijiang, which is designated as a UNESCO Heritage Site. This area is characterized by a diverse mixture of historical architectural styles and features a complex, ancient water-supply system. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 1,253,878, with approximately 288,787 residents living in the built-up metro area of Gucheng District.
