Jiujiang is a prefecture-level city situated on the southern shores of the Yangtze River in northwest Jiangxi Province, China. Formerly transliterated as Kiukiang or Kew-Keang, it serves as the second-largest prefecture-level city within the province and borders Poyang Lake, which is the largest freshwater lake in China.
The city is a significant maritime hub, ranking as the fourth largest port on the Yangtze River. It holds historical importance as one of the first five cities along the river to be opened to foreign trade following the implementation of Deng Xiaoping's Opening-Up Policy. Currently, Jiujiang remains the only international trade port city in Jiangxi Province.
