Dongbei, also known as Northeast China, is a geographical region in northeastern China. The area officially consists of three provinces: Liaoning, Jilin, and Heilongjiang.
The heartland of the region is the Northeast China Plain, which is the largest plain in China, covering an area of over 350,000 km2 (140,000 sq mi). The region is bordered by several natural landmarks, including the Amur, Argun, and Ussuri Rivers to the north and east, and the Yalu and Tumen Rivers to the south. To the west, it is bounded by the Greater Khingan Range and Yan Mountains, while the southwest borders are defined by the Bohai Bay and Yellow Sea.
