Beitou District is the northernmost of the twelve districts in Taipei City, Taiwan. Historically known as Peitou, its name is derived from the Ketagalan word Kipatauw, which translates to witch. The district is recognized as the most mountainous and highest area within Taipei.
The region is characterized by a valley containing meadows and rivers with abundant steam rising from them due to geothermal warming. This geological activity often creates mist that shrouds the surrounding trees and grass. Beitou is primarily famous for its hot springs and was named one of the Top 10 Small Tourist Towns by the Tourism Bureau of Taiwan in March 2012.
