Shenzhen is a prefecture-level city located in the Guangdong province of China. Situated on the east bank of the Pearl River estuary along the central coast, it borders Hong Kong to the south, Dongguan to the north, Huizhou to the northeast, and Macau to the southwest.

As a special economic zone, Shenzhen has developed into a premier global metropolis with a GDP that has surpassed both Hong Kong and Singapore in recent years. The city is home to a population of 17.5 million as of 2020, making it the third-most-populous city by urban population in China after Shanghai and Beijing.

The region serves as a major hub for international trade, featuring the Port of Shenzhen, which ranks as the world's fourth-busiest container port.
