Shangyu District is a district located in the northeast of Zhejiang province, China. It serves as a constituent part of the prefecture-level city of Shaoxing and accounts for approximately one-fourth of the total area of the Shaoxing prefecture.
The district measures roughly fifty kilometers from north to south and thirty kilometers from east to west. According to the 2010 census, the population in Shangyu's built-up area was 779,412, reflecting an increase from 722,523 recorded in the 2000 census. While it is situated near other urban centers, remaining countryside prevents Shangyu District from being fully conurbated with the Hangzhou-Shaoxing built-up area.
