Nanyue was an ancient kingdom located in East Asia, founded in 204 BC by the Chinese general Zhao Tuo. Following the collapse of the Qin dynasty, Zhao Tuo established the kingdom after serving as the Commander of Nanhai Commandery. His family maintained rule over the territory until 111 BC.
The geographical expanse of Nanyue encompassed a large region including modern-day Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Hong Kong, Macau, and southern Fujian in China, as well as central to northern Vietnam. Initially, the kingdom consisted of the commanderies of Nanhai, Guilin, and Xiang.
