Linghu is a Chinese compound surname. Its origins are traced back to the Zhou dynasty, during which a general named Wei Ke achieved numerous military victories for the state of Zhou.
As a reward for his service, Wei Ke was granted the city of Linghu. All of his descendants subsequently adopted Linghu as their compound surname.
