Haining is a county-level city located in northern Zhejiang Province, China, under the jurisdiction of Jiaxing. Situated on the south side of the Yangtze River Delta, the city covers a land area of 700.5 km2 and had a population of 1,076,199 as of the 2020 census. It is positioned approximately 125 km southwest of central Shanghai and 61.5 km east of Hangzhou, the provincial capital.
The city is geographically defined by its proximity to the Qiantang River, which lies to its south and is known for its spectacular tides. Haining is notably recognized for its leather industry. In June 2021, the city was further integrated into regional infrastructure with the opening of the suburban Hangzhou – Haining subway Line connecting it to Hangzhou.
