Pinghu is a county-level city located in the eastern part of Jiaxing's administrative area within Zhejiang Province, China. It is situated in the northeast of the province and borders Shanghai to its northeast. The city sits adjacent to the East China Sea and the north shore of Hangzhou Bay.
Historically, Pinghu was part of Haiyan County before the Ming dynasty. Pinghu County was officially established in 1430. In 1991, the area was designated as a county-level city under the administration of the prefecture-level city of Jiaxing.
