Huangshan, which translates literally as the Yellow Mountain(s), is a mountain range located in the southern Anhui province of eastern China. The region was originally known as "Yishan" before being renamed following a legend that the Yellow Emperor performed alchemy at the site.
The geography of the range features distinct vegetation patterns based on elevation. Thick vegetation is most prevalent below 1,100 meters (3,600 ft), while trees continue to grow up to the treeline at an altitude of 1,800 meters (5,900 ft).
