Fuxi, also known as Fu Hsi, is a significant culture hero in Chinese mythology. He is traditionally credited with the creation of humanity and several fundamental human activities, including hunting, fishing, cooking, and music.
According to mythological tradition, Fuxi is associated with the invention of the Cangjie system of writing Chinese characters around 2900 BC or 2000 BC. He is also recognized as the originator of the bagua, a system based on his observation of eight fundamental building blocks in nature: heaven, earth, water, fire, thunder, wind, mountain, and lake.
In these traditions, Fuxi is often depicted alongside his sister and wife, Nüwa. The bagua he originated are characterized as different combinations of yin and yang.
