Anqing is a prefecture-level city located in the southwest region of Anhui province in the People's Republic of China. According to the 2020 census, the city had a total population of 4,165,284, with 728,501 residents living within its three urban districts.
The city is historically significant as the birthplace of Chen Duxiu, one of the founding fathers of the Chinese Communist Party who served as its first General Secretary from 1921 to 1928. Anqing is also the origin of Huangmei opera, a renowned style of Chinese opera that gained widespread popularity starting in the 1950s due to the talents of local performers.
