Foumban, also known as Fumban, is a city located in the West region of Cameroon, situated to the northeast of Bafoussam. It has a population of 83,522 and serves as a major town for the Bamoun people.
The city is recognized for its political significance in the formation of Cameroon's history and holds significant cultural, tourism, and economic potential. Notable landmarks include a market, a craft centre, and a museum dedicated to traditional arts and culture.
Foumban is home to the Foumban Royal Palace, which contains a museum featuring information on Ibrahim Njoya. Njoya is noted for inventing the Bamum script, a new language script, as well as the artificial language Shümom.
