Angol is a commune and the capital city of the Malleco Province, located in the Araucanía Region of southern Chile. Situated at the foot of the Cordillera de Nahuelbuta, the city sits adjacent to the Vergara River, which historically facilitated boat communications to Concepción and the Bío-Bío River.
The strategic location of Angol led to its repeated founding during the Arauco War. Originally established in 1553 as a "conquistador" fort known as Confines, the site was destroyed and rebuilt multiple times before being reconstructed under its current name following the Pacification of Araucania in the late 19th century. The city currently has a population of approximately 53,000 residents.
