Coyhaique, also spelled Coihaique, is a city located in the Chilean Patagonia region. It serves as the capital of both the Coyhaique Province and the Aysén Region of Chile. The city is situated at an average altitude of 310 meters above sea level at the confluence of the Simpson and Coyhaique rivers, positioned east of the Andes mountain range.
Founded by settlers in 1929, Coyhaique is considered a young city. Historically, Chile showed little interest in exploiting the remote Aisén region until the twentieth century.
