La Ligua is a city and commune located in the Valparaíso Region of Chile. It serves as the capital of the Petorca Province and covers a total area of 1,163.4 square kilometers (449.2 sq mi). The region is characterized by a diverse landscape consisting of transverse valleys and marine plains.
The geography of the commune is traversed by several rivers, most notably the La Ligua and Petorca rivers. It experiences a Mediterranean and semi-arid climate, which is defined by low annual precipitation and extended dry seasons. As of the 2022 census, the population of La Ligua was 31,987, with the majority of residents living in urban areas.
