Avarua is a district and township located in the northern part of Rarotonga, which is the largest island in the Cook Islands. It serves as the national capital and functions as an essential commercial and economic hub for the country.
The district is divided into 19 tapere, or sub-districts, and had a recorded population of 5,120 during the 2021 census. Avarua houses the nation's primary infrastructure, including the main harbour and airport located at Avatiu.
