Thayngen is a municipality and village located in the canton of Schaffhausen in Switzerland. It serves as a local administrative center that has expanded significantly through municipal mergers over the last two decades.
The current boundaries of Thayngen were formed through several consolidations. On January 1, 2004, the neighboring village of Barzheim merged with Thayngen. This was followed by another major expansion on January 1, 2009, when the villages of Altdorf, Bibern, Hofen, and Opfertshofen also merged into the municipality.
