Wil is a town and political municipality located in the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland. It serves as an important regional center for the west of the canton, including the areas of lower Toggenburg and Hinterthurgau. As of the end of 2024, the town had a population of 25,176, while its larger agglomeration constitutes the second-largest conurbation in Eastern Switzerland with 74,550 inhabitants.
The town is known as "Abbots Town" (Äbtestadt) because the prince-abbots of St. Gallen resided in the "Hof" of Wil for more than 500 years. It ranks as the third largest city in the canton of St. Gallen, following St. Gallen and Rapperswil-Jona. The municipality expanded on January 1, 2013, when it incorporated the former political municipality of Bronschhofen.
